MAUI February, 2014

Staying at Kahana Reef Condos, in Lahaina, provided a central location for exploring the island
and a great view of the ocean.

Flying into Maui on a rainy afternoon.         72-84 degrees all week

We had a great view from our room.

On the drive from Kapalua, many stop to see Nakalele Blowhole, where waves cause water to erupt up through a hole in the lava.

A small village alongside the road, made handicrafts and coconut drinks for thirsty tourists.

Near Lahaina, is the largest banyan tree in the country.  The tree, which was brought to the island from
India in 1873, is more than 60 feet tall and spreads out to cover the entire block.

We enjoyed spending time with our friends, the Bachellers.

We spotted many breaching whales not far from the Maui shores.

Maui is a leading whale-watching center in the Hawaiian Islands due to humpback
whales wintering in a sheltered channel between the islands of Maui county.

Ho'okipa is one of Maui's most famous surfing and windsurfing spots.

This is the waiting room outside Mama's Fish House!

Saturday farmers market at Maui Community College was filled with
great food, crafts and people.  Ken enjoyed a 30 minute massage for his sore back.

When cut open, the red fluffy fruit of the rambutan tree can be used in jams, canned or eaten fresh.

Hawaii's flag has 8 stripes to represent the 8 islands. The flag of England is in the upper left
corner to honor Hawaii's friendship with the British.          Bougainvillea

Wind and solar powered generators and collectors are found across the island.

 So many amazing sunsets!

We loved the Asian-fusion dishes at Star Noodle!

We were the lucky ones to have a front seat view as we flew over West Maui, waterfalls and Molokai.

Aloha from Maui!
