January, 2013 San Diego, Anza Borrego, La Jolla

Anza Borrego Desert State Park is two hour drive northeast from
San Diego. The park is a 937-square-mile preserve in eastern
San Diego County and is the second largest state park in the United States.

Pumpkin Patch  The 'pumpkins' are believed to be formed
by the natural cementing of sand particles to a small object
such as a piece of shell, a grain of sand or even an insect.
This unique landscape is the result of wind and water
continuously eroding the surface soil.

Font's Point offers a spectacular panorama over the Borrego
Valley to the west and the Borrego Badlands to the south.

Oceanside's climate is the fifth most desirable in the world and
the second most desirable in the nation with annual
temperatures ranging from 70-52 degrees. Wonderful seafood.

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is located within San Diego
city limits and yet remains one of the wildest stretches of land
on the Southern California coast.  The high road leads to a
coastal wilderness of pine forests, sandstone canyons and a
network of dirt hiking trails on the bluffs overlooking the sea.

La Jolla Cove cliffs are riddled with sea caves of
special fascination to kayakers.
Sea lions, comerants, and gulls call the cliffs their home.

Hotel del Coronado, also known as The Del and Hotel Del, is a beach front luxury hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is one of the oldest and largest all-wooden buildings in California and was designated an National Historic Landmark in 1977.

California's more than $1 billion annual citrus business
produces a significant share of the nation's navels,
valencias, lemons, grapefruit and tangerines.

USS Midway, built in Newport News, Virginia,
was commissioned in September 1945. After decomission
in 1992, the air craft carrier was converted to a museum.

Bird of Paradise      In Southern California, the jade plant is sometimes used as a hedge.

Built in 1769, Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala was
the first of the 21 missions built in California.
